April 2022 marks the 522nd anniversary of the arrival of the Portuguese on the Brazilian Coast. Due to its historical role, the disembarkation region and surroundings is officially called “Discovery Coast” according to the geopolitical division in Bahia. The Discovery Coast is made up of eight municipalities, and is one of the most important tourist centers in the state, especially Porto Seguro and its districts of Arraial d’Ajuda, Trancoso and Caraíva. The historical and cultural appeal through landmarks and monuments joins the beautiful landscapes with beaches, cliffs, preserved nature, including terrestrial and marine national parks. The region is a complete itinerary for those looking for rest and also excitement, with lots of music and leisure on Bahian nights.
For food lovers, the region has two gastronomic festivals already integrated into the region’s calendar: Esquina do Mundo, in Arraial d’Ajuda, and Porto Seguro roots, which in addition to these two destinations also includes Trancoso and Caraíva. This year’s Roots Festival will take place between the 12th and 30th of April. In addition to the planned cultural agenda, tourists and residents will be able to enjoy delicacies in different categories: main course, snacks, snacks, desserts and drinks. The dishes should follow the theme of the Festival for this year: Culture, History and Gastronomy.
ABIH – Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry and one of the institutions supporting the festival, foresees an increase in the occupancy rate in the region, with inns, hotels and tour operators already preparing for the movement. The Municipality of Porto Seguro has also been promoting the destination through SETUR – Municipal Tourism Office, with the action called “Porto Seguro para o mundo”. The festival is supported by Abrasel – Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants on the Costa do Descobrimento, Sebrae, Senac and Porto Seguro City Hall. In addition to ABIH, TV Santa Cruz, Sicoob and the sponsorship of the Baden Baden brewery.
